We’re looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistant to support young people in an alternative education setting.
You’ll work closely with teachers to help students stay engaged, complete learning activities and make progress. This is a varied, hands-on role supporting individuals and small groups both inside and outside the classroom.
You’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference to young people who may need additional support to re-engage with education. Working alongside experienced teachers, you’ll help students build confidence, develop their skills and achieve their potential.
What You’ll Do
- Support students with classroom activities and learning tasks.
- Work with individuals and small groups to encourage engagement and progress.
- Support the delivery of SEN interventions and individual learning activities.
- Help teachers implement lesson plans and learning objectives.
- Provide encouragement and constructive feedback to students.
- Lead small-group activities where required.
- Support students who may display challenging behaviour, using positive behaviour management strategies.
- Provide classroom support and cover when required.
- Supervise students during breaks and lunchtimes.
- Work with teachers and parents to share information about student progress.
- Keep learner records and files accurate and up to date.
- Help create a positive, safe and supportive learning environment.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Good English and Maths skills.
- Understanding of SEN, safeguarding and health & safety requirements.
- Experience working with children or young people in an educational or support setting.
- Experience supporting students with SEN or individual learning needs.
- Confident using positive behaviour management strategies.
- Ability to work independently while working closely with teaching staff.
- Experience supporting the planning and delivery of learning activities.
- A genuine commitment to helping young people improve their achievement and confidence.
- Resilience and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
Desirable
- Experience working as a Teaching Assistant in an alternative provision setting.
- Understanding of literacy and numeracy requirements.
- Experience supporting young people who may be disengaged from education.
