Teaching assistant

We are looking for committed individuals who are willing to work as Teaching Assistants in Taunton. This work is available 5 days a week and the hours are 8:30-15:30. No prior experience is required as you will learn ''on the job''. The children identified have a variety of SEND needs, mostly Autism. We can provide training, but initiative and resilience are key skills needed for this type of work.

Working closely with teaching staff, you will support the pupil during the day with their lessons, and also in their interactions with their peers. You would be using Autism Teaching Techniques such as "Now and Next". This work is one-to-one, working with one identified pupil. However, at times, there will be a need for you to work with a small group of children; for example to help with reading.

If you have worked in a care setting, security, probation or social services, you may have key transferable skills.

Responsibilities and duties:

· Supporting 1:1 in class

· Help the students to access the curriculum and tailor the lesson activity to their level of ability

· Build a strong relationship with the pupils and teaching staff to ensure that the pupils are achieving their potential

· Be a support to the students when they are struggling, and help them to calm down and remain focussed

Essential Criteria:
· Be empathetic, kind and patient
· Have a right to work in the UK (A Valid Visa)
· Two recent references, covering the last 2 years
· Relevant DBS/Police checks, or willing to obtain

The pay rate is £13.45* an hour. The day is 7 hours with an unpaid 30 min lunch break. Your daily rate of pay would be £98.00* but with a potential to earn more based on level of experience. *Including holiday pay
