Teaching Assistant – SEND School - Careers
Are you a passionate and committed Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding opportunity where you can make a genuine difference to the lives of young people? This specialist school is looking for an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join its supportive team, helping students with a range of learning needs to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
This is a varied role where you will work across whole-class, small-group and 1-2-1 settings, adapting your approach to help students regulate, engage with learning and develop their independence. You will play an important role in supporting students' social and emotional development while contributing to their individual EHCP outcomes.
A key part of the role will also involve supporting students with careers and work experience. You will help KS4 and KS5 students explore potential placements, visit students during work experience, communicate with employers and contribute to careers meetings and placement reviews. Being able to drive is essential for this role.
The Role
- Support students on a whole-class, small-group and 1-2-1 basis
- Help students access learning and make progress towards their individual EHCP outcomes
- Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement
- Support students' social and emotional development
- Contribute to adaptive teaching and curriculum planning
- Assist with personal care where required
- Support students during break and lunchtime
- Maintain accurate student records and contribute to feedback on learning
- Support students with careers guidance and work experience placements
- Visit students at work experience placements and complete placement reviews
- Communicate with employers and families where appropriate
- Support KS4 and KS5 students to identify suitable work experience opportunities
- Update student profiles and careers information
- Use systems such as Compass+ following appropriate training
The ideal candidate will be a proactive and nurturing Teaching Assistant who is able to build strong professional relationships with young people and adapt their approach according to individual needs.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience working with children or young people
- Experience supporting students with additional learning needs
- A patient, flexible and positive approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to support positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Excellent teamwork and organisational skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
- A full driving licence and the ability to drive as part of the role
