About the opportunity
Are you looking to develop your career in tax with an established and growing accountancy firm?
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Tax Assistant to join a friendly and supportive tax team in Dunfermline. This role would suit someone with practical UK tax experience who is looking to build their technical knowledge, take on greater responsibility and progress their career.
You may already be working towards a tax qualification, be ATT qualified, or be looking to begin your CTA studies. Full training and ongoing development opportunities are available.
The role
As a Tax Assistant, you will support a portfolio of clients across a range of tax matters. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing corporate and personal tax computations and returns for submission to HMRC.
- Assisting with proposals for new client engagements.
- Coordinating tax payments, loss relief, capital allowances and other claims.
- Maintaining up-to-date technical knowledge across corporation, business and personal tax.
- Communicating with HMRC on behalf of clients, both verbally and in writing.
- Liaising with colleagues across audit and accounting teams.
- Supporting smaller clients with day-to-day tax matters.
- Managing a small portfolio of tax clients and ensuring:
- Tax payments and returns are dealt with accurately and on time.
- Appropriate claims and elections are made.
- Tax planning opportunities are identified and pursued where appropriate.
- Identifying opportunities to provide additional value to clients.
- Completing associated administrative duties, including scanning, filing and managing client information.
- Contributing positively to the wider team and supporting colleagues where required.
About you
The ideal candidate will have:
- Ideally, at least two years'' experience within a tax team.
- Relevant UK tax experience.
- Good technical knowledge and IT skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- A proactive, organised and adaptable approach.
- A commercial mindset.
- A strong commitment to delivering excellent client service.
- A proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ideally, be studying towards a tax qualification or be ATT qualified, although relevant UK tax experience will also be considered.
