Supplier Development Engineer - Peterlee

Initial 12 month contract - likely to extend for the right person

36.5 hours a week with an early finish on a Friday!  Mon-Thurs 07.00-15.00, Fri 07.00-12.00

Up to £33.47 PAYE hourly rate plus holiday and pension contribution OR Umbrella hourly rates up to £45.43 - depending on experience

Our client is a worldwide manufacturer of construction and mining products. They’re looking for a Supplier Development Engineer on an initial 12 month contract basis which is likely to extend for the right person; to assess supplier quality and ensure that all Harness products are free from defects and are following manufacturing specifications and legal standards.

What will the Supplier Development Engineer do?

  • Take care of suppliers and ensure the quality of supplies, by conducting tests and assessments on incoming supplies to identify any quality issues; Developing supplier inspection, testing, and evaluation mechanism.
  • Generate reports on supplier quality, by monitoring their defect rates and areas that can lead to potential flaws; Guiding suppliers to reduce these defect rates.
  • Research the potential vendors, assessing their manufacturing environment, practices, and procedures; Conducting supplier quality control audits to ensure compliance with organizational and federal policies and standards.
  • Support suppliers in improving their performance through process enhancements, implementing process controls, and developing quality assurance plans.
  • Ensure Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) is completed and approved before new parts are delivered.
  • Some travel required: circa 10% of the time.

What skills and experience does the Supplier Development Engineer need?

  • A degree and relevant demonstrable supplier development experience. You’ll have high technical knowledge in industrial manufacturing & quality systems.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of: supplier audits, PPAP and APQP experience, as well as Build in quality skills i.e. to be able to determine route cause and implement action
  • Strong Leadership and soft skills for internal and external communications
  • Process improvement, attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability - looking for someone with the passion to perform well and achieve required outcomes
  • Quality orientated with Supplier Management (MFG) and knowledge of manufacturing standards, procedures and policies as well as supplier evaluations and certification
  • PC literate: used to using MS Office suite – you’ll be trained on our client’s software.
