About the Role
The Subsea Mechanical Design Engineer position, based in Barrow-in-Furness, is a contract role offering £350–£380 per annum. This assignment focuses on creating high-reliability mechanical systems for subsea and offshore use. You will develop connectors, pressure housings, and sealing solutions using 3D CAD, producing models, drawings, and bills of materials. Responsibilities include running FEA and thermal or pressure analyses, plus selecting corrosion-resistant materials for demanding environments. Collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams is essential, as is supporting prototype and qualification testing. This contract suits an engineer with proven subsea design experience seeking a challenging project within a specialised sector.
We are looking for a Subsea Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in subsea connectors, high-reliability mechanical systems. You will design and develop high-performance mechanical solutions for subsea and offshore applications, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering, manufacturing, quality, and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop subsea electrical and optical connectors, pressure housings, and sealing systems using 3D CAD.
Produce detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
Perform and interpret FEA, mechanical, thermal, and pressure analysis.
Select suitable materials for high-pressure, high-temperature and subsea environments, including corrosion-resistant materials.
Support prototype, pressure, qualification, and integrity testing.
Ensure designs meet relevant API, ISO, ASME, IEC and IEEE standards.
Lead or support design reviews, RCA, FMEA, DFMEA, PFMEA, and engineering change activities.
Work with electrical, controls, manufacturing, quality, procurement, and installation teams.
Skills and Experience
Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Four relevant mechanical engineering experience, ideally in subsea, offshore, oil and gas, marine, aerospace, defence, or other high-reliability environments.
Strong experience with 3D CAD and 2D engineering drawings.
Experience with FEA and simulation tools.
Understanding of pressure-rated designs, sealing systems, materials, and corrosion.
Experience with subsea equipment such as connectors, umbilicals, jumpers, manifolds or subsea trees is highly desirable.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
