This middle-grade position requires a highly competent ophthalmologist capable of independent clinical decision-making and proficient surgical intervention. As an SpR, you will play a crucial role in managing a diverse caseload of acute and chronic eye conditions, running specialized medical retina and glaucoma clinics, and supporting the surgical roster in a modern NHS environment. Core Clinical Responsibilities: Lead independent outpatient ophthalmology clinics, managing conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Perform routine ophthalmic surgeries, notably phacoemulsification (cataract surgery), under the supervision or mentorship of a Consultant. Act as the senior clinician on-call for acute ophthalmic emergencies, providing expert guidance to SHOs and nursing staff.
