Speech and Language Therapy Band 6
The SLT provision is required for 1 day a week to start ASAP. There are 20 young people in HA2 split between two classrooms. Initially 4 students require SLT assessment. Ages are 16-25. The therapists will be required to write up their findings and develop programmes, to support staff implement key targets and understand a clear profile about the students. There is a range of needs and challenges across the students, including Neurodiversity, DLD, and social communication needs. Others are pre verbal and have more complex needs, but only need environmental support and advice re communication opportunities Some higher level learners are working towards university and functional independence (walking independently etc). Some higher needs learners are non verbal or communicate basic needs only. Key needs identified include emotional regulation, ASD and associated needs, social understanding difficulties and some students struggle with regulation and social awareness. There is a key focus on independence and life skills including making independent choices, community access, handling money and shopping skills.
