About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Specialist Teacher for Children and Young People with a Multi-Sensory Impairment (QTMSI) to join our clients team in Oldham.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated teacher to provide specialist teaching, advice and support to children and young people (CYP) with multi-sensory impairments, working closely with schools, families and a range of professionals.

The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring that children and young people with sensory impairments receive appropriate support, enabling them to access learning, achieve their potential and develop their independence.

You will work as part of the Sensory and Physical Support Service, contributing to the development and delivery of high-quality specialist provision for children and young people with sensory impairments across the borough.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist advice, guidance and direct teaching to children and young people with multi-sensory impairments.

  • Assess and identify individual needs and develop appropriate strategies and interventions to support learning and development.

  • Work collaboratively with children and young people, families, schools, settings and other professionals to ensure effective support and positive outcomes.

  • Plan and deliver high-quality, individualised teaching and interventions that reflect a range of learning needs, abilities and communication styles.

  • Provide advice and practical guidance to schools and other settings on effective approaches to supporting pupils with multi-sensory impairments.

  • Deliver training and professional development to school staff and other agencies to increase knowledge, understanding and confidence in supporting children with sensory impairments.

  • Contribute to the ongoing development, evaluation and promotion of the Sensory and Physical Support Service.

  • Work effectively as part of a wider SEND team and contribute to multi-agency planning and support.

  • Promote inclusion, independence, achievement and positive outcomes for children and young people with multi-sensory impairments.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed teacher who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with sensory needs.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience of teaching children and young people.

  • The Qualified Teacher for Children and Young People with Multi-Sensory Impairment (QTMSI) mandatory qualification, or a willingness to undertake and achieve the qualification within three years of appointment.

  • Sound knowledge and practical experience of working with children and young people with multi-sensory impairments.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive and effective relationships with children, families, schools and professionals.

  • Experience of working within a special school or specialist educational setting is desirable.

  • Knowledge and/or experience of communication systems such as BSL, Braille, on-body signing or other appropriate communication approaches.

  • A willingness to develop knowledge and skills in specialist communication systems where required, including a commitment to begin learning within six months of appointment.

  • The ability to work independently, manage a varied caseload and prioritise effectively.

  • A collaborative and flexible approach to working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle, as the role requires travel to schools and settings across the borough.
