The UCL Student Support and Wellbeing Team (Disability, Mental Health and Neurodiversity Support Services) is responsible for providing advice and support to enable students who identify as disabled to thrive and succeed at UCL.About the role
We are seeking an experienced Specialist Study Skills Tutor to provide one-to-one and group support for students with specific learning differences and/or neurodivergence within the Student Support and Wellbeing Team at UCL. Our goal is to promote an inclusive learning and teaching environment, enabling students to study independently and reach their potential.You will assist in removing study-related barriers by providing tailored study strategies, supporting students to engage fully in their learning. Additionally, you will contribute to the Specific Learning Differences provision at UCL, including creating resources, delivering workshops, and supporting the implementation of DfE requirements.This position is fixed-term for 12 months.About you
The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of the nature and manifestations of Specific Learning Differences in Higher Education, along with experience in one-to-one tuition with monitored and evaluated learning outcomes. Knowledge of co-occurring difficulties such as mental health issues, and familiarity with specialist software and assistive technology for supporting students with learning differences, is essential.You should be able to work effectively with individuals with a wide range of disabilities, including mental health conditions, tailoring support to their needs. Empathy and understanding from the student''s perspective are crucial. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, effective time management, and the ability to prioritize tasks are also required.What we offer
