OverviewWe are excited to offer an opportunity for a Specialist Grade Doctor with a special interest in Colposcopy and Vulval Disease to join our dedicated team. In this role, you\''ll play a vital part in delivering high-quality care across a broad spectrum of women\''s health services. Your responsibilities will include leading 2-week wait (2WW) and general gynaecology clinics, contributing your expertise to our established colposcopy and vulval services, and supporting gynaecology operating lists—with the opportunity to independently lead these lists in the future. You\''ll also be involved in the senior registrar and on-call rotas, including a fixed night shift every other week, and provide specialist input to our Maternity Triage and Maternity Day Assessment Unit, particularly for high-risk patients. This is a 12-month post with potential for extension to a permanent position. We are committed to your professional development and will support your progression towards a consultant role through tailored training and mentorship.
Main duties
Colposcopy and Vulval Disease : Independently perform colposcopic assessments, cervical biopsies, and LLETZ procedures. Provide expert care in vulval clinics and actively contribute to MDT meetings and service development.
Rapid Access and General Gynaecology Clinics : Deliver care in 2WW and general gynaecology clinics under consultant supervision. Manage patient lists and clinic administration, including GP communications and result follow-up.
Maternity Triage and Day Assessment Unit : Offer senior-level expertise in managing high-risk women using the BSOTS framework. Support complex decision-making in the Day Assessment Unit.
Elective Caesarean Sections and Gynaecology Theatres : Assist in elective caesarean sections and gynaecology operations, including pre- and post-operative care and inpatient follow-up.
Collaboration and Teamwork : Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, participate in case reviews, and communicate effectively with patients and families.
Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement : Maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge, engage in audits, and contribute to protocol development to enhance service quality.

Job responsibilities
Colposcopy and Vulval Disease : Independently perform colposcopic assessments, cervical biopsies, and LLETZ procedures where indicated. Provide expert care in vulval clinics, including vulvoscopy and management of new and follow-up patients. Actively contribute to Colposcopy MDT meetings and collaborate with the Colposcopy CNSs to enhance service delivery and support training. Ensure timely communication of results to patients and GPs via approved Trust channels. Participate in regular audits to support clinical governance and service improvement.
Rapid Access and General Gynaecology Clinics : Deliver care in General Gynaecology and 2WW Rapid Access Clinics under indirect consultant supervision. Manage a personal patient list and oversee clinic administration, including GP correspondence and result follow-up.
Maternity Triage and Day Assessment Unit : Provide senior-level expertise in managing high-risk women using the BSOTS framework for standardised assessments. Support complex clinical decision-making in the Maternity Day Assessment Unit.
Elective Caesarean Sections and Gynaecology Theatres : Assist in elective caesarean sections, covering pre-, intra-, and post-operative care. Participate in gynaecology theatre lists under consultant supervision and follow up on inpatients as required.
Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Teamwork : Work closely with obstetricians, anaesthetists, midwives, and the wider healthcare team to ensure seamless, patient-centred care. Contribute to case reviews and multidisciplinary meetings, offering clinical insight and collaborative decision-making. Communicate effectively with patients and families, ensuring clarity, empathy, and responsiveness.
Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement : Maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge and competencies in obstetrics and gynaecology, with emphasis on colposcopy and vulval disease. Participate in audits and contribute to the development of protocols and guidelines to enhance service quality and patient outcomes.

Person SpecificationEducation and qualifications
MBBS or equivalent
GMC registration
MRCOG or equivalent
At least 12 years\'' post-graduate experience, of which 6 years is in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Desirable
Higher degree e.g. PhD or MD
Experience
Broad experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the Middle-grade rota with specific experience in the NHS.
Completion of Colposcopy Training and BSCCP Accreditation
ATSM in Vulval Diseases
Experience in doing general gynaecology and Rapid Access 2 Week Wait Clinics
Teaching experience / willingness to teach medical, nursing and other staff
Experience of audit / clinical research
Desirable
Undertaken a management course
Understanding of the NHS and its organisation
