Special School Support Assistant - Portsmouth

Prospero Teaching is looking for caring and committed Special School Support Assistants to join a specialist SEN school in Portsmouth this September 2025.
This welcoming school supports primary-aged children with autism, speech and language needs, and wider communication challenges. As a support assistant, you''ll play a key role in helping pupils thrive-whether working one-on-one or in small groups-using tools like Makaton, PECS, and visual aids to build confidence and encourage learning.
What You''ll Be Doing:
Supporting children''s development through personalised learning activities
Encouraging social skills, independence, and self-esteem in a nurturing environment
Helping create calm, structured routines to support emotional well-being
Collaborating with teachers to deliver creative, engaging lessons
Monitoring progress and contributing to assessments
Offering additional support to ensure every child feels safe, valued, and understood
Assisting with personal care routines respectfully and sensitively
Promoting safeguarding and confidentiality at all times
About You:
We''d love to hear from you if you:
Have experience supporting SEN pupils in a school setting (primary preferred)
Are passionate about child welfare and proactive in safeguarding
Bring patience, positivity, and a warm sense of humour to your role
Understand SEN needs and communication tools like Makaton or PECS
Are a collaborative team player with strong communication skills
Hold solid literacy, numeracy, and IT skills

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 AM - 15:30 PM (part-time considered)
Pay: From -13.96 per hour
