SMT Operator

A well-established electronics manufacturing company based in Stevenage is looking to recruit an experienced SMT Operator to join its production team.
This is a great opportunity to work within a modern manufacturing environment, supporting high-quality PCB assembly using industry-leading SMT equipment.
The Role
Working within the SMT department and reporting to the SMT Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring surface mount machines run efficiently in line with daily production schedules.
You will be involved in all aspects of SMT production, from machine operation and setup through to inspection and basic maintenance, ensuring high standards of quality are consistently achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain SMT production equipment, including pick and place machines and reflow ovens
- Work with Samsung SM Series machines (training provided if required)
- Carry out visual inspection of components and assemblies to IPC 610 standards
- Identify and report quality issues from inspection, AOI and testing processes
- Set up and run solder paste printing processes
- Install electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, diodes and transistors onto PCBs
- Monitor production processes to ensure efficiency and quality targets are met
- Perform routine maintenance on SMT equipment
- Support hand assembly of components where required
- Follow standard operating procedures to ensure consistent results
- Adhere to AS/EN9100 and ISO9001 quality standards
- Follow all health, safety and environmental procedures
Essential:
- Previous experience in an SMT or electronics manufacturing environment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work to quality standards
- Good communication skills
- Ability to follow processes and work to production schedules
- Experience operating SMT machinery (Samsung SM Series or similar)
- Knowledge of IPC 610 standards
- Relevant qualification in electronics or manufacturing
- Focused and patient with a keen eye for detail
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Reliable and able to work as part of a team
- Salary £26,000 – £32,000 depending on experience
