About the Role
Based in Cheltenham, this permanent Site Team Operative post supports the upkeep of buildings, gardens and grounds at a single academy trust. Working 22.5 hours each week across Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 09.00 to 17.00, the successful candidate helps maintain facilities to a high standard throughout the year. Practical skills in general repairs, caretaking and grounds care are essential, alongside a methodical approach and awareness of health and safety. The salary ranges from £15,576 to £16,325 per annum. This site role suits someone reliable who takes pride in keeping a large school estate, including sports pitches and specialist teaching blocks, safe and presentable.
An established single academy trust with a PAN of 300 is seeking a Site Team Operative to support in the maintenance of the schools’ buildings, gardens and grounds to a high standard throughout the year. They have a wide catchment, over 200 staff and over 1,800 students. That means they have the resources to provide a wealth of opportunities: a sports centre and 3G sports pitches; a fully equipped drama studio, a dance studio, a large library, modern spacious English and Maths blocks, 12 science labs and specialist design, technology, computing and media rooms. The highly successful sixth formers have their own large base within the school too.
You will be working 22.5 hours per week, 52 weeks a year.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 09.00 – 17.00.
As the Site Team Operative you will:
- Carry out and support the general maintenance and upkeep of the site and buildings, managing building/repair works including internal fixtures, fittings and furniture, in liaison with the Commercial and Facilities Manager keeping appropriate logs, records and reports.
- Ensure standards of safety, cleanliness and tidiness are maintained and monitored throughout the school and grounds.
- Be a key holder to respond to emergency call-outs in the event of fire damage, burglary, floods, snow or ice etc.
- Where necessary, take necessary steps for the security of the site from the start to the end of the school day.
- Liaise, manage and control external contractors for the purpose of maintenance in the school and on site.
- Ensure the maintenance of boundaries, footpaths and car parks on the school site.
- Assess risks and taking all reasonable steps to restrict access to potential hazard
- Monitor the site to ensure that all work areas are kept clear of obstruction, particularly those associated with fire escape routes.
We are looking for a Site Team Operative with:
- Relevant educational qualifications at school/college/university.
- Experienced and proven record in carrying out general maintenance tasks to the required standard.
- Working knowledge of the application of Health and Safety legislation regarding general maintenance areas and safe systems of work.
- Willing to undertake trainings courses that are relevant to the post and that are required for health and safety purposes.
- Computer literate and comfortable using Microsoft Office365 applications.
