This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Transformer Engineer with supervisory experience to join an established business specialising in the installation, assembly and servicing of distribution and power transformers, along with associated package substations.

The successful candidate will combine strong hands-on technical knowledge with the ability to supervise site activities, coordinate engineering teams and ensure transformer installations, testing and maintenance work are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

Working predominantly at customer sites across the UK, with occasional European travel, you will act as a key point of contact for site teams and customers, overseeing day-to-day activities, resolving technical challenges and ensuring projects are delivered in line with specifications, schedules and customer expectations.

The Role

The role will focus primarily on supervising the installation of new transformers and package substations, including the fitting, wiring and testing of distribution and power transformers. Additional responsibilities will include overseeing warranty investigations and rectification work, as well as routine equipment maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate site engineering teams undertaking the installation, fitting, wiring, assembly and testing of distribution and power transformers and associated package substations.
  • Oversee day-to-day site activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with technical specifications, project schedules and quality standards.
  • Allocate work, coordinate labour and resources, monitor progress and provide technical guidance and support to site personnel.

  • Ensure the correct parts, subassemblies, tools and materials are available to support site installation and assembly activities.
  • Provide hands-on technical support where required, including assembling components, checking connections, fastening parts and resolving mechanical or electrical installation issues.
  • Supervise and coordinate site-based testing, commissioning and inspection activities, ensuring equipment meets the required standards before handover.
  • Oversee warranty investigations, fault-finding and rectification work, ensuring issues are identified, resolved and communicated effectively.
  • Travel to customer and third-party sites throughout the UK and Europe to oversee installations, equipment assembly and testing activities.
  • Act as a customer-facing representative of the business, maintaining professional relationships and delivering excellent customer service, including when working under pressure.
  • Liaise with customers, project managers, engineers, subcontractors and internal operations teams to coordinate activities and resolve site-related challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, site-specific requirements, risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
  • Monitor workmanship and quality standards, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring corrective actions are implemented where necessary.
  • Provide guidance, coaching and on-the-job training to colleagues, supporting the development of technical skills and safe working practices.
  • Take a proactive approach to problem-solving, using initiative to manage changing priorities while maintaining a strong focus on safety and project delivery.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant legislative changes, technical developments and company communications.
  • Be flexible to accommodate customer requirements, including occasional unsociable hours and short-notice site attendance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance site efficiency, quality, safety and customer satisfaction.
