About the Role

Thames Water seeks a Site SCADA Engineer (Waste) for its Beckton location, offering a competitive salary up to £62,000 per annum on a full-time basis. The role involves supporting critical operational technology across the wastewater network, ensuring control systems run reliably 24/7. You will maintain and enhance SCADA, automation, and communications infrastructure, collaborating with frontline teams to boost environmental performance and reduce pollution. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting system faults, implementing improvements, and driving resilience within a large industrial control environment. Candidates should possess strong technical expertise in SCADA platforms, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to system optimisation. This position directly contributes to services relied upon by millions of customers daily.

Every day, more than 16 million customers rely on Thames Water's operational technology systems to safely collect, treat and transport wastewater. Behind those systems is a complex network of SCADA, automation, control and communications infrastructure that operates 24/7 across hundreds of operational sites.
We're looking for a talented SCADA Engineer to join our Operational Technology team and help drive the reliability, resilience and evolution of one of the UK's largest industrial control system environments. You'll play a key role in supporting and improving the technology that enables our frontline teams to operate critical wastewater services while helping us reduce pollution, improve environmental outcomes and deliver better performance for our customers.

What you'll be doing as a Site SCADA Engineer (Waste)
As a Waste Site SCADA Systems Engineer, you'll be responsible for maintaining and enhancing site-based SCADA systems across our wastewater operations estate. These systems provide critical monitoring, control and operational insight across treatment works and pumping stations.

  • Support and maintain critical SCADA platforms including AVEVA System Platform/Wonderware, FactoryTalk View and Iconics.
  • Ensure high levels of system availability, resilience and security across operational sites.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve faults involving SCADA systems, HMIs, PLCs and communications infrastructure.
  • Deliver upgrades, patches and improvements that keep systems secure and reliable.
  • Support disaster recovery planning and business continuity arrangements.
  • Work closely with operations teams to understand challenges and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide technical input into capital delivery and OT improvement projects.
  • Champion OT change management, risk management and cybersecurity best practice.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, sharing knowledge and mentoring colleagues across the wider OT community.

Why join Thames Water?
This is an opportunity to work at a scale that very few organisations can offer.
You'll be joining a team responsible for supporting operational technology that directly impacts millions of customers and some of the UK's most critical infrastructure. You'll help deliver the next generation of OT capability while developing your own expertise in a highly visible and influential role.
You'll benefit from:
  • Exposure to large-scale SCADA, automation and OT environments.
  • Involvement in major infrastructure and digital transformation programmes.
  • Opportunities to develop specialist expertise in Operational Technology and industrial cybersecurity.
  • Hybrid working that supports work-life balance.
  • A collaborative team environment where innovation and continuous improvement are encouraged.
  • The chance to make a real difference to environmental performance and customer outcomes

Base location: Hybrid – Crossness
