Site Manager – Holiday Cover – Live School Environment
We are currently seeking an experienced Site Manager to provide holiday cover on a live school project in Southampton.
This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and organised Site Manager with a strong background in managing construction projects safely, on programme and to a high standard. As works will be carried out within a live educational environment, an Enhanced DBS certificate is essential.
The Role
As Site Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of site operations during periods of holiday cover, ensuring the project continues to run smoothly in the absence of the permanent Site Manager.
You will oversee subcontractors, coordinate daily site activities and maintain high standards of health and safety while ensuring minimal disruption to the school's staff, pupils and day-to-day operations.
Site Manager Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day running of the construction site during holiday cover.
- Supervise subcontractors and ensure works are completed safely, on time and to the required quality standards.
- Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation and company procedures.
- Maintain a safe, secure and well-organised site at all times.
- Coordinate site logistics and daily site operations.
- Carry out regular site inspections and monitor the quality of workmanship.
- Complete and maintain site documentation, including site diaries, permits and health and safety records.
- Attend and lead site meetings where required.
- Liaise with the client, project managers, school representatives and other stakeholders.
- Identify and resolve site issues efficiently to minimise delays.
- Ensure all works are undertaken with minimal disruption within the live school environment.
About You
We are looking for an experienced and reliable Site Manager who can step into an existing project with confidence and hit the ground running. You'll have excellent leadership and communication skills, be highly organised and capable of managing multiple workstreams while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Site Manager on construction projects.
- Experience working within live occupied environments, ideally schools, colleges or other public sector buildings.
- A valid Enhanced DBS certificate is essential. Due to the nature of this role, applicants must already hold an Enhanced DBS. Candidates without one will not be considered.
- Valid SMSTS qualification.
- Valid First Aid at Work certificate.
- Strong understanding of current health and safety legislation.
- Excellent subcontractor management and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage programmes, deadlines and changing site priorities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Full UK driving licence.
