An established and highly regarded main contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Site Manager to join its team in Plymouth, taking a lead role in the successful delivery of complex construction schemes. This is an excellent opportunity for a Construction Manager with a strong track record of delivering mid to large-scale commercial projects, who is confident leading site teams, coordinating supply chain partners and maintaining high standards across health & safety, quality, programme and commercial performance. Their main projects include Education, Industrial, Leisure, Healthcare and commercial.
Working closely with the wider project and operations teams, you will take responsibility for the delivery of projects from pre-construction through to completion and handover, while building strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
The Role

  • Taking overall responsibility for the successful delivery of projects from pre-construction through to completion and the defects period.
  • Working closely with client representatives and project stakeholders to ensure contractual requirements are achieved.
  • Leading and coordinating project teams, subcontractors, consultants and other key stakeholders to create a collaborative, one-team approach.
  • Developing, implementing and managing the agreed project strategy and delivery programme.
  • Monitoring progress against programme targets and providing regular updates to senior management.
  • Working closely with the commercial team to maintain budgetary control and manage variations, scope and project costs.
  • Leading the site team and supply chain to achieve high standards of health & safety, environmental performance and quality.
  • Identifying potential risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Managing site logistics and temporary works to support safe and efficient project delivery.
  • Driving best practice and continuous improvement across the project.
  • Coordinating the successful completion, commissioning and handover of projects to the client.
About You
  • A proven track record of successfully delivering mid to large-scale commercial construction projects.
  • Experience working across a variety of construction methods and materials.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate site teams, subcontractors, consultants and other stakeholders.
  • Good commercial awareness, including an understanding of budgets, scope, variations and cost control.
  • Strong technical knowledge with the ability to interpret drawings, specifications, contract information and programmes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in planning and managing site logistics and temporary works.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience using construction project management systems.
  • A calm and pragmatic approach, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Valid SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid at Work certification.
  • A relevant degree, MCIOB membership and a full UK driving licence would also be advantageous.
