Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage construction works on site, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme.
  • Promote and maintain the highest standards of Health, Safety and Environmental compliance across all site activities.
  • Ensure all subcontractors comply with site standards, health & safety requirements and project specifications.
  • Allocate labour and resources daily to ensure works are adequately resourced by competent personnel.
  • Ensure all required plant, tools and materials are available, reporting shortages to the Site Agent or Project Manager.
  • Review work documentation to ensure all information is suitable and sufficient for the planned activities.
  • Accept and manage permits, ensuring they are included within work packs and issued to the relevant workforce.
  • Carry out daily setting-to-work briefings with operatives, supervisors and subcontractors.
  • Deliver and record Daily Activity Briefings, Pre-Start Briefings, Toolbox Talks and End-of-Shift Debriefs.
  • Supervise operatives, supervisors and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with all health & safety, environmental and quality procedures.
  • Ensure all works are carried out under appropriate safe systems of work and that all required briefings have been completed.
  • Review site records completed by operatives and supervisors, submitting documentation to the Site Agent as required.
  • Assist the Site Agent with programming works, resource planning and plant/material requirements.
  • Oversee plant deliveries, inspections, utilisation and associated documentation.
  • Carry out regular Health, Safety and Environmental inspections and audits.
  • Lead by example, promoting high standards of professionalism, safety and site conduct.
  • Complete employee documentation, including Return to Work paperwork where required.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Attend site progress meetings as required.
  • Report all Health, Safety and Environmental incidents in accordance with company procedures.

Skills & Experience Required

  • SSSTS or SMSTS.
  • Valid CSCS Card.
  • Proven experience as a General Foreman within civil engineering, highways or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of earthworks, drainage, highways and structures.
  • Previous experience managing site operatives and subcontractors.
  • Good understanding of construction health & safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and adapt to changing site requirements.
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
