Site Chemist / Chemistry Graduate – Hazardous Waste
We are currently recruiting for a Site Chemist to join a busy waste management and environmental services operation. This opportunity is ideal for someone with a chemistry or environmental science background who is looking to build a long-term career in hazardous waste management and environmental compliance.
Job Title: Site Chemist / Chemistry Graduate – Hazardous Waste
Location: Beccles, Norfolk (relocation support considered)
Salary:
- £28,000 – £32,000 for graduates
- £37,000 – £40,000 for candidates with hazardous waste sector experience
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
We welcome applications from graduates as well as experienced professionals from the hazardous waste industry, including those currently working as Reception Chemists, Site Chemists, Technical Assessors, Chempac or Hazpak Chemists, Mobile Chemists, or in similar roles.
The Role
As a Site Chemist, you will play a key role in supporting daily site operations by assessing, classifying, and managing incoming and outgoing waste streams while ensuring full compliance with environmental and hazardous waste regulations.
Please note this is a predominantly outdoor role (approximately 75%) and will involve working in all weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, label, and maintain records for containerised waste inventory
- Carry out hazardous waste assessments and pre-acceptance checks
- Produce hazardous waste documentation and consignment notes
- Conduct waste sampling and classification activities
- Monitor compliance data and maintain accurate reporting records
- Support site operations, scheduling, and job bookings
- Weigh vehicles entering and leaving site and ensure documentation accuracy
- Liaise with customers and third-party waste disposal providers
Skills & Experience
- Minimum HNC in Chemistry, ideally degree qualified
- Degrees containing significant chemistry content will also be considered, including subjects such as Biochemistry, provided module lists include chemistry-based modules (e.g. Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry)
- Full UK driving licence required
- Knowledge of hazardous waste management or environmental regulations would be advantageous
- Strong organisational, administrative, and record-keeping skills
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced operational environment
Previous experience within the hazardous waste industry is highly desirable; however, ambitious graduates looking to enter the sector are also encouraged to apply.
