Location: Cambridge (Eastern Highways Alliance Framework)

Contract Type: Freelance / Contract

Day Rate: -450 - -550 per day (dependent on experience)

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced and commercially-astute Site Agent to join a leading civil engineering contractor on a long-term framework in Cambridge. You will be responsible for the successful delivery of a variety of highway and infrastructure schemes, including maintenance, public realm enhancements, active travel projects, and new construction.

As the Site Agent, you will be the key operational lead on-site, overseeing all aspects of the project from conception to completion. You will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget, while maintaining excellent relationships with the client, stakeholders, and the local community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all on-site activities, including direct labour and subcontractors.

  • Assume responsibility for the commercial performance of the project, working closely with the commercial team to manage costs and maximize value.

  • Produce and manage key project documentation, including Project Plans, Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).

  • Develop and manage project programmes, including short-term "look ahead" schedules.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for the client and other external stakeholders.

  • Ensure the highest standards of Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance are maintained at all times.

  • Lead and mentor the site team, including General Foremen and Engineers.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Site Agent on heavy civil engineering projects, with a strong background in highways.

  • Demonstrable experience working on framework agreements is highly desirable.

  • A strong understanding of NEC contract conditions.

  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g., HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering).

  • SMSTS, CSCS (Managers), and First Aid at Work certifications are essential.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong commercial awareness and a proactive approach to project delivery.
