Site Agent / Project Manager – Major Earthworks Project (Western Isles)
Location: Isle of Lewis
Contract Length: 18 months (with potential to extend to 4 years)
Rate: Up to £450 - £550 per day including accommodation & flights (Outside IR35)
Rotation Options: Monday–Friday or 11-on/3-off rotation. Friday could be worked from home as regular flight path to and from Glasgow
Are you an experienced Site Agent or Project Manager with a strong background in complex earthworks? An exciting long-term freelance opportunity is available on a landmark energy infrastructure project in the Western Isles.
This role will see you leading the delivery of a major converter station platform as part of the new HVDC connection between the Isle of Lewis and the mainland – a critical link in Scotland’s renewable energy strategy.
The Project:Part of a major HVDC converter station and energy export cable installation
Earthworks scope:
450,000m³ of peat
150,000–200,000m³ of gravel
800m³ of rock
Initial contract: 18 months, with follow-on works likely to extend duration for a few years after.
As most senior person on site, you''ll:
Oversee a site team of -20 including sub-agents, engineers, a foreman, and HSE support
Be supported off-site by a wider technical and compliance team (design, quality, HSE, planning, environmental, social value)
Report to a Senior Project Manager
Ensure safe and efficient delivery of earthworks in a challenging location
Proven experience managing large-scale earthworks projects
Strong leadership and team coordination skills
Proficiency with Word, Excel, and Project software
CSCS and SMSTS required; First Aid desirable
Variety of quality accommodation available: hotel, hostel, or private houses (1–3 bedrooms)
No bunk-style shared housing – suitable for long-term stays
Flexible working options:
Monday–Friday with flights from Glasgow (08:00 arrival into Stornoway)
11-day rotation with 3 days off as alternative option
Open to candidates travelling from other major Scottish cities
Day rate: Up ro £500 per day, including accommodation & flights
Outside IR35
Long-term opportunity with follow-on work expected beyond initial 18 months
