Ship''s Gear Driver - South Wales
About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Ship''s Gear Operator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating shipboard cranes and related cargo-handling equipment to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely loading and discharging of vessels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate ship''s cranes, derricks, and other lifting equipment in compliance with company and port regulations.
- Safely load, unload, and stow cargo in accordance with cargo plans and instructions.
- Inspect and maintain gear, slings, and lifting equipment to ensure safety and readiness.
- Communicate effectively with stevedores, deck crew, and supervisors to coordinate cargo operations.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental protocols at all times.
- Assist in reporting equipment faults or damage to the relevant department.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Ship''s Gear Operator or in a similar cargo-handling role.
- Valid certification or license to operate shipboard lifting gear (where required).
- Strong knowledge of cargo-handling procedures, lifting equipment, and safety practices.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions precisely.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and irregular hours as required by vessel schedules.
