Shift Operations Technician

Astute''s Power Team is partnered with a market-leading Energy company, to recruit for 5 Shift Operation Technicians to join their new-build Energy from Waste Power Station, currently in construction, in Tilbury, Essex.

Once fully operational, the EfW will process 350,000 tonnes of waste per annum to generate c.40MW of electricity to export to the national grid which is enough to power c.90,000 homes.

The vital Shift Operations Technician role comes with a salary of -58,954 (inclusive of shift and location allowanced) + Bonus + Overtime + Pension + Private Medical + benefits

Responsibilities and duties of the Shift Operations Technician role

Reporting to the Shift Team Leader, you will be responsible for:

• Using a DCS system, you will be required to start, stop and monitor the steam turbine, steam boilers, pumps, water treatment plant and more
• Ensuring the plant is operating within its parameters whilst complying with strict HSE rules and regulations as well as company policies and procedures
• Performing plant walk round and daily checks to ensure equipment is operating correctly and efficiently
• Monitoring of continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) and perform corrective adjustments to the process when required
• Providing technical supervision and assistance where necessary for company and contract staff
• Working within the company Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality Systems
• Working closely with the EPC contractor during the commissioning phase of the plant and going through the training period leading to a smooth handover process into full operations

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• Ideally an NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering subject
• IOSH/NEBOSH will be advantageous

Personal Skills, Prior Experience and Knowledge

The Shift Operations Technician role would suit someone who has:

• Prior operations experience gained within a heavy process engineering environment such as power generation, paper mills, COMAH sites, steel works, cement, pharmaceutical, etc.
• Experience in operating a DCS/SCADA system
• Familiar with safety rules procedures
• Ex forces engineers will be highly encouraged to apply whether this be Navy, RAF or Army
• Experience working with steam raising plant would be highly advantageous
