Salary: £48,000–£52,000 DOE + benefits
Location: North West (commutable from Liverpool, Wigan, Warrington and surrounding areas)
Are you an experienced Shift Engineer looking to take the next step in your career? This is an opportunity to join a well-established, high-volume manufacturing site in the North West, where quality, performance and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything we do.
About the Role
As part of the shift team, you’ll work a 4-on, 6-off rotation (2 days, 2 nights), playing a key role in keeping production running smoothly and safely. The Shift Engineer is a hands-on role, fully integrated with operations, where you’ll be expected to tackle electrical issues quickly and effectively while driving long-term reliability and efficiency across the site.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Ensure all machinery safety systems are functional and actively promote safe working practices.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults quickly to minimise downtime.
- Work with Mechanical, Electrical and Process Engineers to resolve failures and improve equipment reliability.
- Support continuous improvement projects and equipment upgrades.
- Maintain accurate fault/fix records to aid preventative maintenance.
- Assist with planned maintenance, installations, machine modifications and commissioning of new equipment.
- Supervise contractors, ensuring all site standards and procedures are followed.
- Contribute to team knowledge sharing and drive improvements in fault-finding and troubleshooting techniques.
About You
We’re looking for someone with a solid engineering background, ideally gained in FMCG, manufacturing or other high-volume industries. You’ll bring:
- Time-served engineering background (preferably multi-skilled).
- ONC/HNC or NVQ Level 3 (Electrical Engineering or equivalent).
- Strong hands-on experience with PLCs (Siemens Step 7 / TIA Portal, Allen Bradley RS Logix 500/5000).
- BS 7671 -18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations are preferred.
- Experience working with motor drive systems (inverter, servo, encoder, resolver).
- Knowledge of SAP or other management systems would be an advantage.
- Ability to use a laptop/PC to monitor, troubleshoot and make small PLC modifications.
- A proactive, safety-focused mindset with strong teamwork skills.
