This permanent, full-time Service/Mechanical Engineer position is based in Woolston, offering a £42,000 annual salary plus bonus and overtime. The role is primarily workshop-based, with approximately ten percent of time spent on client sites. Core responsibilities include stripping, inspecting, rebuilding, and testing gearboxes and transmissions. You will diagnose faults using specialist software and electronic equipment, repair hydraulic and mechanical issues, and complete detailed service reports. Working Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:45, this hands-on position requires solid experience in heavy engineering. Strong diagnostic abilities and proficiency with mechanical repairs are essential for this permanent role within a growing operations team.

We are looking for a motivated and reliable Service/Mechanical Engineer to join our growing operations team. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced engineering environment and has experience within a heavy engineering industry.
Due to business growth we are recruiting for an experienced Service/Mechanical Engineer who will be 90% workshop based and 10% on sites.
As the  Service/Mechanical Engineer, your duties will be: -

  • Stripping, inspecting, rebuilding, and testing gearboxes/transmissions.
  • Using diagnostic software and electronic test equipment
  • Repairing hydraulic, mechanical faults
  • Completing reports and repair documentation
  • Bench testing rebuilt units before they go back to customers.
  • Liaising with field engineers or customers about technical issues
  • Maintaining workshop cleanliness, tooling, and safety procedures

The successful Service/Mechanical Engineer will have the following skills: -
  • Must be a time served Mechanical Engineer.
  • Solid background in a Heavy Engineering/Mechanical Engineering role.
  • Ideally have experience with presses/lathes/milling machines/surface grinders.
  • Ability to read technical drawings.
  • Excellent team player.
  • Flexible to work away from home (approx. 2 nights per month)
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence.
