Service Engineer

We are seeking a Service Engineer for a leading marine energy company based on Merseyside but operating globally to its maritime clients.  The company provides battery and hybrid energy solutions that are used across the maritime industry.  They offer products worldwide supported by remote and on-site monitoring to ensure a first-class customer service.

Service Engineer - The Role
This is a full-time permanent position working for an outstanding Company who will provide full training.

This role covers commissioning, annual maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance activities for Battery Energy Storage Systems.
What you will do

• This role requires frequent international travel to customer sites, shipyards, and project locations worldwide (but mainly Europe) supporting activities including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), installation, commissioning, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), sea trials, customer acceptance, and technical support
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
• Inspect battery racks, modules, Battery Management System (BMS), power and communication wiring
• Verify battery module voltages, temperatures, and State of Charge (SOC)
• Perform BMS diagnostics, firmware updates, configuration, and troubleshooting
• Check alarms, event logs, and system health status
• Inspect DC connections, torque critical terminals to specification, and verify insulation integrity
• Test communication between BMS, PCS, EMS
• Carry out battery balancing, calibration, and State of Health (SOH) verification when required
• Verify operation of safety devices, breakers, contactors, fuses, emergency stop circuits, and Cooling systems
• Perform functional tests and confirm normal system operation
• Document findings, corrective actions, and recommendations in the service report
• Report any defects, safety concerns, or non-conformities identified during the intervention

Service Engineer - The Candidate
Preferred experience

• Strong mechanical and/or electrical background
• High availability and willingness to travel internationally, primarily within Europe, with occasional assignments worldwide
• Flexibility to travel at short notice when urgent customer support is required
• Ability to undertake short service interventions (typically 1–2 days) for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective actions, as well as longer assignments lasting several weeks for commissioning, installations, retrofits, and major service projects
• Strong motivation to learn, develop, and work in a fast-paced technical environment
• Practical experience is highly valued; however, significant expertise will also be gained through hands-on field interventions and the structured training provided by our company throughout the employment cycle
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of an international team.
• Excellent communication skills and a customer-oriented mindset
• A valid driving licence and the ability to travel without restrictions

Service Engineer - Benefits

• A starting salary of £50,000pa
• The salary is then increased as you progress through training to £52,500pa after 6 months and £55,000pa after 1 year
