Senior Town Planner – Development Management
Location: North East Lincolnshire – Hybrid (minimum 1 day in office per week, preferably more)
Day Rate: £31.70
Hours: 37 per week
Contract: Temporary / Maternity cover

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Town Planner with extensive Development Management experience and a strong background in local authority work. This role supports the planning service delivered across North East Lincolnshire, ensuring a first-class service to customers while contributing to sustainable development and growth across the region.

Flexible working is offered, with a minimum of one day in the Grimsby office per week, although more days are encouraged to fully integrate the successful candidate into the team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of complex planning applications, including preparing accurate reports, attending committees, and preparing appeal statements.

  • Deliver first-class customer service to all stakeholders

  • Enable sustainable development and growth through timely, high-quality planning decisions

  • Lead and contribute to specific projects to improve service efficiency and effectiveness

  • Make recommendations on planning and related applications on behalf of the Council

  • Lead on all major and sensitive planning application decisions, including pre-application discussions

  • Work within multi-disciplinary teams to resolve issues and support sustainable growth

  • Act as an expert planning witness at planning appeals, inquiries, and hearings

Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working within a Town Planning environment

  • Flexible to meet the needs of the service

  • Experience drafting committee reports and making professional recommendations

  • Experience of planning appeals

  • Planning degree or working towards a degree and working towards full Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).

  • Experience working on schemes requiring robust and innovative approaches to sensitive or potentially contentious issues

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
