Senior Support Worker - Children''s Residential (EBD)

Hours: 35 hours per week (including long days and sleep-in shifts)
Salary: £16 per hour (equivalent to £29,120 per annum)
Sleep-ins: £50 per sleep-in
 
I am recruiting on behalf of a client for a Senior Support Worker to join a dedicated residential care team supporting children and young people with EBD.
 
Job Purpose:
 
The role involves providing a safe, caring, and nurturing environment where children and young people can thrive. You will be responsible for leading shifts, supporting your team, and ensuring high standards of care are maintained at all times. This role is essential to helping children overcome past traumas and build positive futures.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
·Lead and coordinate care shifts, ensuring staff and resources are effectively allocated.
·Promote a nurturing environment that respects the dignity, privacy, and choices of all children.
·Act as the responsible senior during incidents, including providing on-call telephone and in-person support (additional payment provided).
·Build positive, trusting relationships with young people, promoting their emotional and social development.
·Ensure the consistent implementation of care plans and behaviour support strategies.
·Support and guide junior staff, including providing informal supervision and participating in staff appraisals.
·Maintain accurate records, manage petty cash responsibly, and follow safeguarding procedures.
·Liaise professionally with families, social workers, education providers, and external agencies.
·Ensure the healthcare needs of young people are met, including arranging and attending appointments.
·Encourage and support young people to reach their full educational and vocational potential.
·Participate in daily domestic tasks and help maintain a warm, clean, and well-ordered home environment.
·Engage in activities, outings, and home holidays with children and young people.
·Participate in regular supervision, training, and staff meetings-even when scheduled outside your rota (additional hours can be claimed).
 
Shift Pattern:
 
·Mixture of long days (15 hours) and shorter shifts (8 hours), averaging 35 hours/week across a 3-week rota.
·Includes weekends, bank holidays, and occasional Christmas Day cover.
·Sleep-in shifts (11pm-8am) on a rota basis, paid at £50 per sleep-in.
 
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
 
·Experience working in a residential childcare setting (essential).
·NVQ Level 3 in Children''s Residential or equivalent.
·Full UK driving license.
·Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
·Knowledge of safeguarding, care planning, and child development.
·Ability to work flexibly, calmly, and professionally under pressure.
·A commitment to supporting vulnerable young people to achieve positive outcomes.
