OverviewAn exciting opportunity within Health and Justice Services for a Speech and Language Therapist to work within HMP Northumberland Mental Health Team, a Category C men''s prison. The service provides assessment and treatment for people who are within the prison setting. The post holder will be part of a dynamic SLT service in TEWV, with peer support, supervision systems and CPD opportunities and be part of the growing Health and Justice SLT team. The post holder will have a degree in Speech and Language Therapy and significant experience in Speech and Language Therapy including experience working with service users in mental health or learning disabilities with complex needs. The post will be subject to Prison vetting.
Responsibilities
Provide assessment and intervention with individuals with speech, language and communication needs/swallowing.
Work as an integral part of the Prison Mental Health team.
Be part of a friendly and supportive wider Health and Justice SLT team who work into a range of prisons.
Provide communication advice and strategies to individuals and their supporters in relevant formats.
Raise awareness and improve the workforce''s knowledge and skills in SLC needs.
Provide relevant and meaningful therapy input where appropriate.
Contribute to achieving objectives including exemplary assessment of SLCN for referred individuals, working within an integrated multi-disciplinary team, operating within a robust clinical operating framework, and providing high-quality advice to key agencies and Prison teams including mental health, staff, Prisoner Officers, Alcohol and Drug Recovery services, Education and Employment services and Probation.

Qualifications
Essential: Appropriate professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
Current registration with the relevant regulatory body
IELTS level 7 (SLT 8 for international recruits)
Knowledge
Essential: Understanding of the needs of service users with mental health conditions or learning disabilities.
Desirable
Postgraduate training in a specialist area (e.g., learning disability, autism diagnostics)
Knowledge of evidence-based practice in a designated specialist area
Awareness of professional standards and their application to practice
