SENIOR SOLICITORBased in the NEU Head Office (London, WC1H 9BD). Permanent, full-time. Salary: £85,922 per annum rising to £91,788. The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education, bringing together more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.The role is a newly created post with a degree of autonomy within the Senior Management Team and the wider organisation. The work is varied, interesting and rewarding.The successful candidate will oversee the provision of legal advice on trade union regulatory issues, ensure compliance with legislative requirements for industrial action where applicable, and provide technical legal advice to the NEU’s Strategic Leadership Team on policy and campaigning activity.Responsibilities

Supervise the professional conduct and practice of in-house solicitors as required by the Law Society and Solicitors Regulation Authority; ensure the union complies with relevant regulatory frameworks.Provide or source appropriate technical legal advice for the organisation.Contribute to the union’s responses to government consultations on legal and employment matters.Assist in the delivery of legal training to staff and lay officers.Advise on or support a range of employment, trade union, contract and equality law matters with an understanding of broader political, educational and legal contexts.Qualifications

Qualified, practicing solicitor with a minimum of five years’ experience.Strong knowledge in employment, trade union, contract and equality law; good broad understanding of all areas of law relevant to the role.Salary and Benefits

Salary: £85,922 per annum (including London weighting) with annual progression to £91,788. 35 days’ annual leave plus Christmas closure days; access to blended working policy; defined benefit pension scheme. Salary pro-rated for part-time applicants where applicable.How to Apply
