Office-based with site visits; occasional travel requiredSalary: CompetitiveOverview:Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Lead to design, optimise, and deliver high-quality solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for both commercial and domestic clients across the UK. You''ll be responsible for leading the full technical lifecycle-from feasibility assessments to pre-construction handover-ensuring all solutions are robust, cost-effective, and compliant with UK regulations.Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design of PV solar and BESS systems, producing layouts, SLDs, and schematics using PV*Sol, AutoCAD, and similar tools.
Conduct site assessments, irradiance and shading analysis, and yield estimations.
Manage grid connection design, including liaising with DNOs/IDNOs for G99/G100 applications.
Ensure full compliance with UK standards (BS/IEC), Building Regulations, and electrical safety codes.
Oversee system sizing, energy modelling, and battery storage optimisation.
Review designs from junior engineers and third-party contractors.
Produce technical documentation such as BOMs, specifications, risk assessments, and OandM manuals.
Support pre-sales activities with accurate cost estimations and technical input during bids and tenders.
Provide leadership during design, construction, and commissioning stages.
Stay up to date with UK renewable energy regulations and industry innovations.
Requirements:
5-7 years'' experience in solar PV design, including at least 2 in a senior or lead role.
Skilled in BESS integration and design.
Proficient with PV*Sol, AutoCAD, and familiar with G99/G100 and ENA EREC standards.
Solid understanding of UK electrical and safety regulations, CDM 2015, and BS/IEC standards.
Effective communicator and team leader.
Qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or equivalent.
Familiarity with MCS, G98/G99, and solar monitoring systems.
Degree or Chartered Engineer status.
Experience in planning and permitting processes.
Prior involvement in bidding or sales support.
