We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.OverviewYou will join the Early Career and Career Development Researchers (ECCDR) team within the Discovery Research directorate, reporting to the Head of ECCDR. The Discovery Research team supports curiosity-driven research and manages both open and directed funding routes to enable bold and creative research. We foster partnerships and networks to support a positive research environment.Role purposeWe are looking for a Senior Research Manager to focus on Career Development Researchers, including oversight of the Wellcome Career Development Awards (approximately £120m of research funding per year).What you will be doingLead and deliver strategic initiatives by designing and managing large-scale programmes of work aligned with Wellcome’s mission and delivering measurable outcomes.Shape funding activities through critical assessment of applications, provide informed recommendations, and contribute to robust and equitable decision-making processes.Identify emerging trends, scope areas of interest, and lead the design and implementation of new strategic projects.Engage with diverse stakeholders, building partnerships with researchers, institutions, and internal colleagues to inform and strengthen programme delivery.Draft reports, lead multidisciplinary meetings, and brief senior leadership and external audiences on programme impact.Embed inclusive practices in programme design and delivery and maintain active engagement with funded researchers to support positive research environments.Is this job for me?We are seeking a strategic thinker with deep experience in the research landscape—whether from academia, funding, industry, or the charity sector—who can influence and shape programmes that advance science, health, and equity.
