Senior Research Laboratory Technician

Overview
The Godwin Stable Isotope Laboratory in the Department of Earth Sciences is seeking a Senior Research Laboratory Technician to support research in climate change, ocean geochemistry, and deep-sea sediments. The post will focus on routine sample preparation, instrument operation, and day-to-day laboratory support. The successful candidate will help ensure the smooth running of the laboratory, support high-throughput analysis, and maintain the quality of results. Duties include preparing and processing samples using established protocols, operating and monitoring isotope mass spectrometers and related equipment, undertaking routine maintenance and troubleshooting, maintaining laboratory records, ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures, and supporting the training of new users in standard techniques.Responsibilities

Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific field, and practical laboratory experience including sample preparation and routine use of instrumentation.Ability to work accurately and detail-oriented, with problem-solving, organisational and communication skills.Commitment to safe laboratory practice and accurate record keeping; ability to work in a busy shared environment as part of a team.Desirable: experience with isotope ratio mass spectrometry or similar instruments; high-throughput sample preparation/analysis; familiarity with vacuum or gas-handling systems.Additional information
