Discord is seeking an experienced

Senior Regulatory Counsel

to join its legal team. This role is focused on leading and implementing

Discord’s regulatory response

strategy for the

EU/UK and Australia , primarily on matters related to

online safety

and

content moderation . You’ll be responsible for monitoring evolving regulations, managing inquiries from regulators, and collaborating with various teams to ensure compliance with the latest legal requirements.If you''re interested in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where you’ll face the challenges of rapidly scaling companies in a constantly evolving regulatory landscape, this is the role for you.Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Responses : Lead Discord''s responses to regulatory requests, assess the potential risks posed by inquiries, and draft responses that align with company obligations and interests.Regulatory Engagement : Meet with and present Discord’s approach to regulatory compliance to relevant authorities.Collaboration : Work with

product counsel

on regulatory responses and advise on compliance-related product updates.Monitoring and Risk Management : Stay updated on new and evolving regulations (like the UK and Australian Online Safety Act, EU Digital Services Act), anticipate enforcement risks, and update the team on changes.Public Policy and Communications : Collaborate with

public policy

and

communications

teams, contributing to Discord’s safety communications strategy and overall narrative.Template Maintenance : Maintain up-to-date templates on company practices and positions related to

privacy ,

security ,

teen safety , and more.Additional Legal Support : Depending on workload and interest, provide support for defending Discord against consumer complaints and related issues.What Discord is Looking For

Required Skills and Experience:

10+ years

of experience in

regulatory legal work

related to

Internet regulation , particularly around

user safety ,

privacy ,

data protection , and

consumer protection .In-depth knowledge of

regulatory landscapes

in the

UK/EU and Australia , including key laws such as the

UK and Australian Online Safety Act

and

EU Digital Services Act . Understanding of

GDPR ,

AI Act ,

privacy rights , and

data protection

is a plus.Experience in preparing and submitting responses to regulatory inquiries and meeting with regulators in the

UK ,

EU , or

Australia .A

license to practice law

in a relevant jurisdiction.Prior experience working with

social media ,

messaging ,

content , or

gaming

companies.Strong

project management

skills with the ability to prioritize and drive results.Bonus Points:

Familiarity with

Discord

and the

video game industry .Relevant litigation experience
