Senior Quantity Surveyor

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team on a long-term construction project based in Welwyn Garden City. This is an excellent opportunity to take commercial responsibility for a high-value scheme from delivery through to final account.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Commercial Manager and Project Team to ensure robust commercial control, maximise project profitability, and maintain strong client and subcontractor relationships.

Key Responsibilities

• Full commercial management of the project from procurement through to final account.
• Preparation and submission of interim applications and valuations.
• Management of subcontractor procurement, accounts, payments and final accounts.
• Administration of contract changes, variations and compensation events.
• Preparation of monthly CVRs, cost reports and forecasts.
• Cost planning, budgeting and cash flow management.
• Identification and management of commercial risks and opportunities.
• Negotiation of subcontract and client accounts.
• Liaison with project managers, site teams, clients and consultants.
• Ensure contractual compliance and accurate commercial reporting.
• Support dispute avoidance and commercial resolution where required.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor working for a main contractor.
• Experience delivering projects valued at -20m+.
• Strong knowledge of JCT and/or NEC forms of contract.
• Excellent understanding of procurement, valuations, variations and final accounts.
• Ability to work independently while supporting the wider commercial team.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and commercial reporting systems.
• Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or similar (preferred).
• MRICS status desirable but not essential.
