Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in overhead cabling and substation projects to support the delivery of major power and utilities infrastructure programmes across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading commercial role on complex, high-value energy projects within a growing and dynamic consultancy environment.




The Role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial and contractual management of projects from early-stage development through to final account. Working across overhead line and substation schemes, you will provide expert commercial support to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and within budget.

You will act as a key interface between the client, project teams, and supply chain, ensuring robust cost control, effective contract administration, and proactive risk management throughout the project lifecycle.




Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of overhead cabling and substation projects
  • Develop and manage detailed cost plans, budgets, and forecasts aligned with project objectives
  • Monitor project costs and performance, providing accurate reporting and variance analysis
  • Administer contracts (NEC, JCT, or similar), including management of compensation events and change control
  • Support procurement strategies, including tender preparation, evaluation, and contract award
  • Manage subcontractor accounts, including payments, variations, and final accounts
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are in place
  • Provide clear and concise commercial reporting to senior stakeholders and client teams
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, and delivery teams to drive value and efficiency
  • Support dispute avoidance and resolution through proactive contract management
  • Promote commercial best practice and continuous improvement across projects



About You

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within the power, utilities, or energy sector
  • Strong experience delivering projects involving overhead lines (OHL) and substations
  • Sound knowledge of contract forms such as NEC (preferred) or similar
  • Demonstrable experience managing costs, procurement, and contracts on complex infrastructure projects
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical capability
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial/project management tools
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • MRICS accreditation (or working towards) is desirable
