Senior Quantity Surveyor

We are currently working with a leading UK maintenance and refurbishment contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Slough.

The business delivers a range of social housing maintenance, refurbishment, planned works and improvement programmes, working closely with housing associations and public sector clients across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking to take on a senior commercial position within an established and growing organisation, with responsibility for managing the commercial performance of projects while supporting and mentoring junior members of the team.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of social housing contracts from tender through to final account.

You will work closely with operational, client and supply chain teams to ensure projects are delivered successfully, commercially and in line with contractual requirements.

• Manage the full commercial lifecycle of social housing contracts, from tender through to final account.
• Take ownership of project budgets, forecasts, cost control and cashflow.
• Prepare and submit valuations, variations and contractual claims.
• Administer contracts including JCT, NEC and other relevant forms.
• Produce accurate commercial reports and financial information for senior management and clients.
• Manage and negotiate with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Lead subcontractor procurement, payments and commercial performance.
• Monitor project profitability, costs and commercial risks.
• Work closely with operational and project teams to identify and manage commercial opportunities and risks.
• Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with relevant housing, health & safety and sustainability requirements.
• Provide commercial guidance and support to junior Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors.
• Build strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have:

• Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within the social housing sector.
• Strong experience across planned maintenance, refurbishment or property maintenance contracts.
• A good understanding of commercial management from tender through to final account.
• Experience with relevant forms of contract, particularly JCT and/or NEC.
• Strong knowledge of valuations, variations, cost control, forecasting and subcontractor management.
• Excellent commercial and financial awareness.
• Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to work collaboratively with operational and client teams.
• Experience supporting, mentoring or managing junior commercial staff.
• A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline is desirable, with RICS accreditation welcomed.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and relevant commercial/cost management systems.
