The Role

The Senior Project Manager is accountable and responsible for the management and motivation of the Project Managers The job holder will be responsible for ensuring that the delivery team is effective in works programs prior to site commencement and ensure that all contractors and direct labour work safely and to specification, accountable for the P&L of each of the projects and ensure that the relevant data is collated and presented in line with contract terms and conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and manage Project Managers, operational teams and subcontractors to ensure safe, compliant and successful project delivery.
  • Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of projects, ensuring works are completed on time, within budget and to specification.
  • Chair client, stakeholder and project meetings, maintaining strong relationships and recording actions to ensure effective delivery.
  • Develop, manage and oversee project programmes, critical paths, forecasts and resource planning.
  • Lead post-tender mobilisation activities, ensuring commercial and operational requirements are fully established before project commencement.
  • Ensure all projects are delivered in accordance with approved designs, specifications, technical standards and contractual requirements.
  • Oversee the management of direct labour, subcontractors and supply chain partners across the project portfolio.
  • Drive productivity, programme performance and profitability, with accountability for project P&L and margin performance.
  • Monitor and manage project variations, early warnings, risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure accurate project records, asset documentation, reporting and performance data are maintained.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to clients, operational teams and key stakeholders.
  • Lead incident investigations, audit activities and corrective actions to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct appraisals, competency assessments and development planning for direct reports.
  • Work closely with the PMO and senior leadership team to provide project updates, forecasts, presentations and performance reviews.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with company procedures, legislation and industry best practice.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Extensive Project Management experience within utilities, multi-utility, civil engineering, energy or infrastructure sectors.
  • Proven experience leading Project Managers and multi-disciplinary delivery teams.
  • Strong commercial and financial management experience, including P&L responsibility, forecasting and margin control.
  • Advanced project planning and programme management skills, including Microsoft Project.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, quality and environmental requirements within construction or utility environments.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Self-motivated, results-driven and able to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications & Training

  • NRSWA Supervisor Card.
  • SMSTS qualification.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health and safety qualification.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Project, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) or relevant industry experience.
  • SCO qualifications, SHEA Gas/Power/Water, National Water Hygiene and Solar/BESS sector experience desirable.
