Morson are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior or Principal Ecologist to join a growing team in a fully remote capacity, with occasional visits to our Cardiff office. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled ecological professional seeking greater flexibility while taking a leading role in delivering and overseeing a diverse range of ecological projects from inception to completion.
As part of our remote team, you will provide technical leadership, mentor junior staff, support business development, and help shape the strategic direction of our ecological servicesandmdash;all while enjoying the autonomy and balance afforded by remote working.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee a broad portfolio of ecological projects, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, planning policy and best£practice guidance (e.g., CIEEM, BCT, NE/NRW guidelines).
- Design, review and quality£assure high£quality technical reports, including PEAs, EcIAs, protected species survey reports, mitigation strategies, licence applications and management plans.
- Provide senior technical guidance on the delivery of ecological surveys, assessments and impact mitigation.
- Offer remote leadership and support to environmental coordination and Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW) teams across a variety of sites and project types.
- Attend essential site visits, inspections and client/stakeholder meetings as required (travel expenses covered).
- Mentor and support junior and mid£level ecologists, providing training, oversight and opportunities for skills development across the remote team.
- Contribute to business development including bid writing, fee proposals, client engagement and strengthening long£term relationships.
- Lead on innovation, best practice, quality assurance processes and the ongoing development of ecological service offerings.
About You andndash; Essential Skills andamp; Experience
- Degree in ecology, environmental science or a closely related discipline
- Full or Associate Member of CIEEM (or working towards)
- Extensive experience working as a consultant ecologist, with a strong portfolio of delivering and reviewing high£quality ecological assessments and reports
- Strong ecological field skills with expertise in one or more protected species or habitat specialisms
- Excellent understanding of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy, and protected species licensing
- Strong communication, leadership and client£facing skills
- Ability to work independently, manage complex workloads and collaborate effectively with a remote multidisciplinary team
- Proficiency in GIS (e.g., QGIS/ArcGIS) and digital data£collection tools
- Highly organised, with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously and ensure deadlines are met
