You will be based in our office in Bristol.

Job Description

As a Senior / Principal Engineer, you will be pivotal in driving the delivery of civil and bridge engineering projects and will use your knowledge and skills to deliver the right quality to time and budget. You will use those attributes to mentor and support junior team members.

Key Responsibilities:

Bridge design, both in the UK, Ireland and overseas, from feasibility to construction stageBridge managementBridge strengthening and repair, inspections and assessmentsGeneral civil and structural engineering support to other teamsFeasibility studies and options appraisalsPreparation of documents, reports and health and safety risk assessments, scheme designs and drawings, scheme feasibility studies and outline cost estimatesCoordinate and manage engineering activities so that they result in civil / structural schemes that are affordable and meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and qualityManage resources, junior engineers and CAD technicians, to complete the deliverablesEnsure allocated design and construction contracts include reference to and are compliant with appropriate standards, formal specifications and proceduresEnsure compliance of engineering deliverables to Health and safety legislation, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015Identify and share best practice across the various project teamsSupport growth of the Structures Engineering team, recruitment of technical staff and manage the mentoring of junior engineers

This role will involve working with Egis colleagues in Ireland, it may also include working on other projects internationally. This will predominantly be via remote conferencing and periodic travel.

Qualifications

Chartered Civil or Structural EngineerPractical knowledge and experience of bridge design, maintenance and assessment, gained from working on both construction sites and the design officePractical knowledge and experience of project management of bridge projects, team management and trainingProficient in bridge modelling software such as Midas CivilDesign of concrete, steel, and composite bridgesStructural modelling and analysisExcellent understanding of Eurocodes and their application to bridge design and related regulations (CDM)Proven working knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCDHW) in relation to structural schemesExcellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliersExcellent engineering, analytical and problem-solving abilitiesTechnical qualifications to degree in relevant subject BEng/MEngCITB CSCS scheme, or equivalent

An appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works, including low carbon designBridge InspectionsBridge Remedial DesignParametric ModellingPreparation of contract documents and BOQsConstruction SupervisionDesign of steel/concrete elements in building and civil structuresITS Civils DesignRail, Tunneling, Ports experience
