Overview

We are searching for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to manage the engineering team on a day to day basis, in relation to workload and Engineers workshop activity. As senior mechanical engineer you will report to the Head of Engineering and provide an additional layer of engineering and technical knowledge, experience and assurance.Position Responsibilities

To have mechanical engineering experience, in relation to component and system failure analysis.To have a willingness to support the business from a hands on engineering perspective including: overseeing condition assessments, preparation for FAIs, warranty claim investigation, problem solving, creating method statements, creating component overhaul and reclamation instructions, test procedures, support with material analysis and comparisons, report reviewing and sign off, (list is indicative but not exhaustive)Be accountable for the delivery of their own work and the review and approval of work from other members of the engineering teamTo have the ability to review drawings and designs created from reverse or re-engineering projects for mechanical components and systemsTo support junior engineers and workshop fitters across their range of tasksAssist and identify training requirements, ensuring the team continue their development in general engineering, product knowledge, safety, confidence, attitudes, processes; skills, standards, etcAssist purchasing and quality with approval of new supplier selection and assessmentAssist with the improvement, development, implementation and management of engineering processes in safety critical environmentsTo understand and work within a range of requirements including British / ISO / RISAS standards applicable to mechanical and rail engineering systems.To deputise for the Head of Engineering in their absenceRequired Skills and Experience

HNC/HND qualification (or equivalent) in a mechanically biased engineering disciplineA minimum of 15 years professional engineering experience, including 5 years of managing an engineering teamKnowledge of various industries ranging from heavy Engineering, Rail - Marine, Power Generation and Oil -Gas sectors. Knowledge of mechanical driveline and connecting products and systems these may include, high speed gearboxes, cardan shafts, highly flexible couplings, rail couplers, cooler groups would be advantageous but not essentialAn understanding of CAD packages such as Siemens NX, Autodesk Inventor and Team Centre.Knowledge of design and ability to review design proposals and drawings for quality and accuracy.Knowledge of BS 8888 technical product documentation and specificationShould have a HANDS-ON, flexible, positive, adaptable and proactive approach, that can be used to support junior engineers and work shop techniciansCommercial awareness - understanding the impact of engineering actions and decisions on current contracts and future businessExcellent communication skills on a technical level with both internal and external ..... full job details .....
