Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
White Label is working with a growing production solution provider in Wakefield that operates across defence, aerospace, automotive and advanced assembly sectors, serving major OEM clients. They require an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join their expanding engineering team.
This is a technically demanding role suited to an engineer who thrives on complex, challenging applications and wants genuine ownership of projects from concept through to customer handover. You will be involved at the pre-sales stage, working as a technical authority across the full project lifecycle within a small, multidisciplined team of five engineers.
My client is offering a salary of -55,000 - -60,000 dependent on experience, plus benefits:

Duties of the Senior Design Engineer
- Taking technical ownership of projects from initial concept and pre-sales through to build support and customer handover.
- Working closely with mechanical, electrical and controls teams to coordinate delivery across all project stages.
- Designing solutions from a blank sheet, creating bespoke mechanical designs for complex, technically challenging applications.
- Contributing to pre-sales activities, helping shape opportunities and develop solutions at the earliest stage.
- Analysing production processes and applications to identify improvements and propose engineered solutions.
- Running projects independently, taking accountability for outcomes with minimal oversight.
- Contributing to process development and supporting the continued growth of the engineering function.
Experience Required of the Senior Design Engineer
- Strong mechanical design background with full lifecycle experience - concept, design, prototype, build and handover.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or Inventor (3D modelling essential).
- Experience in a smaller engineering environment where cross-discipline involvement and flexibility are expected.
- Background in industrial, automotive, heavy vehicles, defence, aerospace or similar technically demanding sectors.
- Commercially aware - able to liaise with customers and understand the broader project and business context.
- A natural problem solver who is intellectually curious, proactive and comfortable working in a fast-growing, fluid environment.
