An established, privately owned multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing team.
The business provides mechanical, electrical and low-carbon engineering solutions across a diverse range of sectors including healthcare, education, residential, commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, zero carbon and public sector projects.
With a strong focus on sustainability, innovation and research-led design, the consultancy works collaboratively with clients to deliver technically challenging solutions that support both project requirements and wider net-zero objectives. With over 240 employees across 12 locations in the UK, Poland and India, the business offers a strong platform for technical development and long-term career progression.
The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take a key role within the team, working with a high degree of autonomy across a varied portfolio of technically challenging projects.
You will have the opportunity to take responsibility for mechanical engineering delivery, lead selected projects and provide guidance to more junior members of the team.
The role will include:
- Acting as Project Leader on selected projects
- Working as part of larger multidisciplinary project teams
- Managing the mechanical engineering aspects of projects from inception through to completion
- Attending client and project meetings and delivering presentations where required
- Developing strong relationships with existing clients and supporting opportunities for repeat business
- Providing technical leadership and helping to maintain high standards of mechanical engineering delivery
- Producing mechanical engineering drawings, specifications and design information
- Producing design calculations and supporting junior engineers with their calculations
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across different disciplines
- Contributing to technically challenging projects across a range of sectors
- Supporting the development of more junior members of the team
- Ensuring work is delivered to a high standard and within agreed timescales
Requirements
The successful Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have:
- A Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
- HNC/HND candidates with suitable mechanical building services design experience will also be considered
- Ideally Chartered or working towards Chartered status
- A minimum of 3-4 years'' post-qualification experience in building services design
- Strong experience within mechanical building services design
- Experience using Microsoft Office and relevant mechanical design software
- Experience with Revit is desirable
- Knowledge of British and European Standards and relevant Building Regulations
- Knowledge of HTMs would be beneficial
- Professional membership of CIBSE or a relevant professional body is desirable
- Good understanding of sustainable building design and renewable technologies
- Working knowledge of BREEAM
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- A proactive approach with a willingness to develop existing and new technical skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and communicate confidently with clients
