Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Our award-winning Client is a leading independently owned building services consultancy delivering innovative, sustainable engineering solutions across the UK. With a strong reputation in sectors including commercial, healthcare, education, and residential, they pride themselves on technical excellence, collaboration, and a forward-thinking approach to MEP design. Employing circa 200 staff across 9 strategically placed regional offices, they provide local assistance to live projects nationwide.
Role Overview
The Leeds office is a short 5 minute walk from the train station, offering superb modern offices in the heart of the city and a desirable location for those choosing to commute by car or public transport.
With work pouring in and significant future prospects on the horizon facilitated by their strong reputation in the industry as MEP experts, there is a real opportunity to grow the team with a commitment from the board to increase headcount by 6. This will include:
- 2 x Senior Mechanical Engineer
- 2 x Senior Electrical Engineer
- 1 x Intermediate Mechanical Engineer
- 1 x Intermediate Electrical Engineer
The role of the Senior Mechanical Engineer will include leading mechanical building services design projects, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to the continued growth and success of the Leeds office. Supporting the senior management team, you can expect to enjoy autonomy over live schemes to add personality and a personal touch, whilst providing a first class client facing service which will heighten your profile within the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design of building services systems, including HVAC, public health, and renewable technologies.
- Manage projects from concept through to completion, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
- Prepare and review detailed design calculations, specifications, drawings, and reports.
- Liaise with clients and multidisciplinary teams (internal and external) to develop integrated design solutions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and sustainability targets.
- Support and mentor junior engineers and technicians.
- Attend site visits, design team meetings, and client presentations as required.
- Contribute to business development and bid preparation where necessary.
Requirements
- Minimum HNC in Building Services Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Proven experience in mechanical building services design within a design environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in design software such as IES, Hevacomp, or similar tools.
- Experience using AutoCAD and/or Revit (BIM knowledge desirable).
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience in sustainable design and low-carbon technologies.
- Knowledge of BREEAM and energy modelling.
- Experience working across a variety of sectors.
- Previous client-facing and project leadership experience.
