The role has a focus on premium taxes in relation to the Lloyd’s Market (Syndicates/Managing Agents) and is responsible for providing high quality and timely technical support and guidance to the Market in relation to premium taxes, delivering 800+ premium tax returns (with a value of £0.75bn+) globally per year and working with the UK and overseas tax authorities to resolve audits and enquiries on the Market’s behalf. This role holder is the key point of contact for the Lloyd’s Market in relation to any premium tax issues.

Responsibilities

Deliver the premium tax compliance process on behalf of the Market for all 30+ countries in which Lloyd’s is required to report and pay taxes, including settlement and collection of tax payments.Provide leadership and direction to the IPT team.Lead, develop and be accountable for the performance of the IPT team.Manage the relationship with HMRC in respect of UK IPT.Manage existing Lloyd’s tax arrangements with various tax authorities globally and negotiate new arrangements for Lloyd’s where required.Maintain accurate tax information and content on Crystal+ (Lloyd’s database of tax information).Build and maintain relationships with the Market as the key contact for premium taxes.Responsibility for all premium tax communications to the Market on Lloyds.com.Lead and manage special projects in relation to market premium tax issues (e.g., Brexit, German IPT law reform).Ensure Lloyd’s meets its risk and governance requirements in relation to premium taxes (e.g., UK SAO requirements).

Skills and Qualifications

Oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate tax-technical issues to a non-tax audience.Ability to work independently with guidance only on complex issues and to organise and prioritise own work.Ability to work as part of a team and liaise with other departments and external contacts.Ability to analyse changes in legislation and assess impact on Lloyd’s and its members.Proactive attitude toward identifying issues and recommending solutions based on initiative and understanding of procedures.Confidence to challenge information provided and to use initiative in areas of ambiguity.Consultative approach and ability to manage conflicting views.Effective networking skills and ability to develop strong working relationships.Risk management and stakeholder management skills.Tax advisory skills and leadership and team management skills.

Experience

Solid and broad grounding in UK indirect / premium taxes.An awareness of significant EU and non-EU issues.Experience of dealing with tax authorities.
