Regional Civil Engineering Construction Company - South West EnglandAbout the Company:We are supporting an established civil engineering contractor specialising in infrastructure projects across the South West, Midlands, and parts of the South East. With a strong reputation built over decades of delivering high-quality construction projects, including highways, utilities, drainage, bridge structures, and groundworks, they pride themselves on maintaining the highest standards of safety while delivering exceptional results to their clients.The Role:We are seeking an experienced Senior Health and Safety Manager to lead our safety function across multiple construction sites and operations. Reporting into the Regional Director, this is a pivotal role requiring a hands-on professional who will manage a team of two Health and Safety Managers whilst maintaining an active presence on-site. You will be responsible for driving our safety culture forward and ensuring full regulatory compliance across all our civil engineering projects spanning the South West, Midlands, and parts of the South East.Key Responsibilities:Team LeadershipLead and manage a team of two Health and Safety ManagersAllocate workloads and coordinate site coverage across multiple regionsMentor and develop team members, supporting their professional growthConduct regular team meetings and performance reviewsStrategic Safety LeadershipDevelop, implement and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and proceduresLead the continuous improvement of safety culture across the organisationConduct regular safety audits and risk assessments across all sites and operationsProvide expert safety guidance to senior management and project teamsOperational Safety ManagementMaintain regular site presence through visits across the South West, Midlands, and South East regionsOversee site safety inspections and ensure compliance with CDM Regulations 2015Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, implementing corrective actionsManage relationships with HSE inspectors and other regulatory bodiesCoordinate safety training programs for all staff levelsReview and approve method statements and risk assessmentsCompliance and DocumentationEnsure full compliance with all relevant health and safety legislationMaintain accurate safety records, statistics and reporting systemsPrepare and present safety performance reports to the boardStay current with evolving safety regulations and industry best practicesEssential Requirements:Qualifications and CertificationsNEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent)IOSH Managing Safely certificationCSCS card (preferably Manager level)Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towardsExperienceMinimum 5 years'' experience in health and safety management within civil engineering or constructionProven experience managing and leading health and safety teamsTrack record of managing safety across multiple sites and regions simultaneouslyExperience with CDM Regulations and Principal Contractor dutiesStrong background in risk assessment and method statement approvalComfortable with regular travel and site-based work across multiple regionsSkills and AttributesExcellent communication and presentation skillsStrong leadership abilities with experience managing safety teamsAnalytical mindset with attention to detailFull UK driving licence essentialDesirable Requirements:Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or related fieldExperience with major infrastructure or highway projectsCITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)Experience with safety management software systemsWhat We Offer:Competitive salary package with annual reviewCompany vehicle and fuel card25 days of annual leave plus bank holidaysContributory pension schemePrivate healthcare schemeCompany BonusesProfessional development opportunities and training supportFlexible working arrangements, including hybrid options where appropriateOpportunity to make a real impact in a growing business with regional expansionHow to Apply:To apply for this position, please submit your CV to this advert or contact Fiona Corbett on the details provided.
