We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Health & Safety Manager to join a well-established and growing civil engineering and construction contractor operating across the North East.
This is a senior-level opportunity for an experienced H&S professional looking to take responsibility across multiple projects, working closely with operational teams and senior management to drive high standards of health, safety and compliance.
The Role
As Senior Health & Safety Manager, you will provide both strategic and hands-on H&S support across a range of civil engineering and construction projects.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing H&S leadership across multiple live construction and civil engineering projects.
- Carrying out regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
- Advising Project Managers, Contracts Managers and Site Managers on H&S matters.
- Reviewing RAMS, CPPs, permits and other project documentation.
- Ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 and current H&S legislation.
- Monitoring subcontractor H&S performance and standards.
- Supporting and leading incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Identifying areas for improvement and implementing practical H&S initiatives.
- Monitoring H&S KPIs, trends and performance across projects.
- Delivering toolbox talks, briefings and H&S training where required.
- Working closely with operational teams to develop a positive and proactive safety culture.
- Providing guidance on higher-risk activities including excavations, temporary works, lifting operations, plant and machinery and site logistics.
- Supporting the continued development of company H&S procedures and systems.
- Mentoring and supporting members of the wider H&S team.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a Senior H&S Manager, H&S Manager or Regional H&S role.
- Strong experience within civil engineering, construction or infrastructure.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 and UK construction legislation.
- Experience working across multiple projects.
- Strong knowledge of RAMS, audits, inspections and incident investigation.
- Experience managing and influencing subcontractors and site teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A practical, site-based approach to health and safety.
- The confidence to challenge unsafe practices and work collaboratively with operational teams.
- Full UK driving licence.
