Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Overview
We are seeking a highly-skilled, experienced and knowledgeable Geotechnical Engineer for an expanding engineering consultancy working in the water, energy, housing and railway sectors. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the planning, design, and analysis of geotechnical projects, ensuring safety, efficiency, and sustainability. Working Hours and Schedule: 40 hour working week, hybrid.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Site Investigation and Interpretation: Planning and supervising ground investigations (boreholes, in-situ tests) and interpreting data to create factual ground models.
- Conduct site investigations, including land surveying and soil testing to gather essential geotechnical data.
- Underground Design: Designing tunnel linings, shafts, caverns, and support of excavation (SOE) systems.
- Trenchless Technology: Providing engineering support for Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), pipe jacking, micro-tunneling, and auger boring.
- Ground Risk Management: Identifying geological hazards (e.g., ground subsidence, high groundwater pressure) and developing mitigation strategies.
- Numerical Modeling: Utilizing geotechnical software to perform 2D and 3D finite element modeling for stress analysis.
- Construction Support: Monitoring construction progress, providing on-site troubleshooting for TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) operation or ground conditions, and managing temporary works.
- Reporting and Compliance: Producing technical reports, design calculations.
- Geotechnical Baseline Reports (GBR), and ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.
Candidate Specification
- Relevant engineering degree (BEng, MEng, MSc in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering).
- Experience in Project Management within civil engineering - customer liaison, leading projects and mentoring. Able to manage multiple ongoing projects concurrently.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit or similar.
- Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with clients, contractors, and team members.
- Strong knowledge of schematics development and civil engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with geotechnical analysis techniques and soil mechanics principles.
