Senior Environmental Consultant
to join our Environment and Infrastructure Team. The position can be based at various locations across the UK, on a permanent, full-time, or part-time basis. Your main responsibility will be supporting environmental compliance and consent applications for infrastructure projects, including renewables. RPS is a leading global multi-disciplinary consultancy specializing in the built and natural environment, shaping future environmental, social, and economic landscapes.
Your role:This key position involves integrating environmental aspects of consents into project delivery, from design to construction. The Environment Manager will be responsible for:Managing and delivering multiple consent applications across disciplinesCollaborating with clients and design teams to identify and manage necessary environmental consentsAdvising clients on environmental risks during pre-consenting, design, and construction phasesIdentifying required consents and assessments with stakeholders, regulators, and clients, and negotiating agreementsScheduling activities, managing environmental site teams, and coordinating technical meetingsProducing high-quality submission documentsPlanning the integration of consent conditions into design and working methodologiesCommunicating consent requirements to site teams, clients, and technical staffAuditing consent conditions and compliance
Your skills and experience:Relevant degree (or equivalent) or MSc in environment; chartered status (CEnv, MIEMA, MCIWEM, CSci) preferredExperience in project planning and delivery of environmental aspects to meet planning requirementsExperience in design and build stages of projects, either as part of a contractor’s design team or on behalf of the clientProven delivery of consent programs on major UK infrastructure projectsExperience in multi-disciplinary consent activities across water, biodiversity, cultural heritage, and contaminated land remediationKnowledge of hybrid Bill, DCO, TWA, and TCPA planning regimesExperience with environmental impact assessmentsUnderstanding of consenting issues and risk management in the design processStrong communication skills to work with diverse clients and stakeholders; sector experience (rail, highways, energy, water) is desirableKnowledge of complex planning routes (TWA, hybrid Bill, DCO, TCPA)Experience with NEC3/4 contracts is advantageous but not essential
